Wonderful alkalizing foods to be more comfortable and less pain With less aches and pain we have a more comfortable and productive life. This might sound boring but if you have pain or discomfort in any way this is for you.
It seems that many fall into a routine of eating about the same foods daily. If this is you then I hope you can change things up a bit to feel better. Alkalizing foods help to control the acid in our body thus lower acid relates to lower pain.
Montmorency Tart Cherries
These tart cherries are slightly on the acidic side but with the anti-inflammatory benefits they may also be a help in reducing pain and recovery time. These little guys are also very high in antioxidants so help with muscle recovery after exercise or work. There is an abundance of nutrition in them for a small amount of fruit. Also they are one of the few known food sources of melatonin which helps with better sleep. You can obtain them in many ways, juice, capsules, dried, and frozen.
Most leafy green and non starch vegetables are alkalizing. There are also many fruits the are alkalizing as well but try not to go to heavy in fruits because of sugar. Does that sound pretty easy so far? It really isn’t that hard to do and well worth the try to see if it helps aches and pains. It was definitely a game changer for me on my journey out of pain.
The next thing we must learn is what foods are acid. On average it takes about 5 alkaline foods to balance out one acid food. There is no way to avoid acid foods and we should not try as they are important to good health.
Acid Forming Foods
Acid-forming foods are carbonated drinks, meats, grains, dairy products, unsprouted beans, all nuts except almonds, peanuts, chocolate, and refined or processed foods. Even almonds become acid if roasted. This is the major acid forming foods and there are others that you will find in a complete chart of acid/alkaline foods.
Staple Foods To The American Diet
These foods are staples for the American Diet as well as many countries around the world. They are not bad foods they just need to be balanced with a lot of alkaline food to keep our PH balance in check.
Gout and arthritis are prime example of an over acid system and with that the intense pain people suffer. When changing the diet there is usually a reduction in pain and discomfort. For many it is just more aches and pains that are a result of over acidity but can become worse if not addressed.
With the increase in gluten intolerance many are choosing to use less bread products. Others have learned to make everything with gluten-free flours and then being able to still have breads.
Excess of these breads and not balanced out with lots of fruits and vegetables will still cause acid.
It is important to get PH between 6.5 and 7 so that our much needed minerals are able to be absorbed.
Absorption of magnesium is very important and not able to be used well if the system is over acid.
Daily Meal Ideas
Some examples of ways to bring better balance to daily meals is:
Make an omelette with lots of vegetables then sprinkle more fresh greens on top.
Stir fry works great with a small amount of meat and lots of different vegetables.
Soups are easy and wonderful as well because you can have small amount of meat and try to get many vegetables in. It is best to choose low starch vegetables as most of the starch ones are acid.
You can also just have raw vegetables with dip.
Another way to get more vegetables you can put all left over vegetables in a container in the freezer. Just put them all in the same container then when making meat loaf or meat balls take the frozen vegetable out zip them in a food processor and add to your meat mixture. The kids will never know they are there. More nutrition the easy way.
Parsley, cilantro, and basil are a great way to improve nutrition of almost everything, what ever your favorite is. Fresh herb have an abundance of nutrients and can be used for garnish or add into cooking, Best of all they are all alkaline!
PH Testing
OK guess I better address that we need both acid and alkaline foods. The key is a small amount of acid forming foods and lots more alkalizing foods. It is important to keep our PH balance in a range of about 6.5 and 7. This takes some work depending on many factors. Medicines are acid forming so they need to be accounted for. It is probably impossible to stay in this range all the time. You will be more aware and stay more diligent it will pay off. It was a major wake up call on my journey out of pain.
PH testing is done with PH strips and there is a whole complicated science behind it but if you will just test the urine it will give you a place to start and maintain. Health food stores and the pharmacy all have these test stripes.
Exercise
Exercise will change the PH of the blood but has little difference when testing the urine. Unless you are an extreme athlete this will be no problem. It is best to find the type of exercise or stretches that you are comfortable with. Make it something you enjoy and can do on a regular schedule.
Wishing all radiant health and happiness.
